Sept Mtg: Lisa Brackmann debuts her novel

September 15, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

3pm meeting

3:30: Lisa Brackmann, debuting her newest novel, with a reading and reception. Location: Mysterious Galaxy

Free and open to the public

We hear there will be craft beer to enjoy for those 21 and over.

Here’s Lisa, in her own words, describing the event:

“My latest novel, BLACK SWAN RISING, publishes this Sept. 8. Because that falls in the middle of Bouchercon, we are going to celebrate the week after, at the fabulous Mysterious Galaxy! (details at the link: https://www.mystgalaxy.com/Brackmann-09-2018), Sat. Sept. 15 at 3 pm. There will be beer (good local beer, thank you very much!), and some lovely pint glasses to give away.

This is my first book set entirely in San Diego, mostly in the wilds of Clairemont (and Kearny Mesa). It’s a novel of political suspense that I swear, when I started writing, I did not think would end up being quite as relevant as it’s turned out to be. Except no Russians.
The book has gotten some great early reviews. To quote:
“An absorbing and apocalyptic vision of American politics that leaves the reader hoping it will never come to this.” — BOOKLIST

“Riveting…Readers will furiously turn the pages to see how it all ends.” –PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY

“Brackmann’s novel isn’t only dark and foreboding, it’s also human and humane. The characters take us along this difficult journey through their compelling personal engagement with what’s going on. And the action of the novel doesn’t indulge in the cliches of the genre: The twists and turns of the plot are uniquely Brackmann’s…I don’t know of any other book that captures the actual social and cyber threats to democracy in the U.S. so effectively.” — INTERNATIONAL NOIR FICTION

My sister Dana Fredsti will be the host! We may have some Sisters in Crime business at the beginning but
A. Sisters in Crime is great and
B. You can drink beer during that bit. “
