Have you ever wondered about the challenges the first police women faced in forging their careers in a male-dominated police force? Partners in Crime, the San Diego chapter of the national organization Sisters in Crime, is pleased to welcome Sylvia Bate-Swall, who joined the San Diego Police Department as a one of the first “policewomen” hired as plain-clothes detectives, to speak on Saturday, February 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Mysterious Galaxy, 5943 Balboa Avenue, Suite 100, in San Diego. She served from 1956 to 1962 and later joined the police force of the San Diego Unified School District, serving from 1973 to 1992.
